QCS Preparation

Tips to deal with exam stress ahead of QCS test

In just two weeks, our Year 12 students will sit the Queensland Core Skills test. It can be an incredibly stressful time for many
students, but we must remember that good stress is helpful to assist young people to feel more alert, increase their concentration, provide more energy when needed and it
enhances their sensory experience. It is when they experience alertness that is overstimulating and adversely affecting how
they interact and perform at school where stress can become harmful to their health and wellbeing.
There are simple steps students could take to control stress:
  • Take the time to get organised for the exam period
  • Look after yourselves, rest, and reduce distractions
  • Be prepared to ask for help
  • It is important to get the balance of study and other activities right
  • Work out what times of the day you have the most energy and study then
  • Don’t study more than 40-60 minutes without a short break
Parents can help reduce stress levels at  home by encouraging students to set aside time to study, help get the balance right and plan rewards for after exams. For more tips on dealing with stress visit Headspace.
Breakfast will be offered to students on both mornings of the QCS test (30th and 31st August) from 7.30am.
