Student Governance
Students at Cavendish Road Sate High School have a clear voice and actively encouraged to participate and lead. While the student leadership structure reflects the pillars of learning and areas of student endeavour, the purpose of student leadership is to develop active citizenship, democratic ideals and practices, authenticity in connections to local and global communities.
Philanthropy is a signature focus of student leaders to lead the student body in the identity of what it means to be a "Cavroadian".
Leadership and participation skills are taught, modelled and opportunity provided to practice and apply. These are life-long skills where the experiences and learning derived are transferrable to post-school life. The Foundation for Young Australians (2017, "The New Work Mindset") has identified the 'soft skills' students acquire through these experiences complement a young person's tansition to life and work.
Student Council
The Student Council is coordinated by the school's Vice Captains and consists of the Prefect group, House Captains and aspiring leaders from Years 7 to 11. The major roles of the Council are:
to gauge and communicate student issues and concerns to the Administration;
to develop projects to enhance the physical environment of the school; and
to develop and sustain links with community organisations.
Prefects
Each prefect, elected by students and staff, is a leader with a specific portfolio to coordinate and develop. Each portfolio has a group of aspiring leaders from the Student Council to assist. The prefectures include captaincy, student council, community and environment, middle school, sport and the arts.
