Our school has an extensive framework for the provision of support and care for all students. Our extensive Pastoral Care Program fosters peer-mentoring, teamwork and citizenship with a focus on developing the whole student.

Guidance Officers

The school’s Guidance Officers are trained counsellors who are available to speak with students and parents on matters concerning the welfare of students. This includes personal, academic and career counselling, cognitive assessments and appropriate student placements. Every case is treated confidentially. Referrals to various support agencies are available.

Our Guidance Officers are responsible for supporting our students who require Access Arrangments and Reasonable Adjustments (AARA). AARA ensures all students are on an equal playing field in relation to learning and assessment. By providing reasonable adjustments all students can access all areas of curriculum and assessment.

School Based Youth Health Nurse

Our Youth Health Nurse works with students, staff and parents to: address concerns about health and wellbeing; create a more supportive healthy school environment; connect people to other support services inside and outside of the school. This is a confidential service.

Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Liaison Officer

A liaison officer is available to work with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students in areas of counselling and personal wellbeing. This person works closely with students and staff. Various support programs for these students have been implemented at a cultural and educational level.

Literacy and Numeracy Tutors

The Literacy and Numeracy Support program is overseen by the school’s Support Teacher Literacy and Numeracy. The major focus is on the needs of Year 7, 8 and 9 students. Students are supported by either one on one or small group intervention or by in-class support.

International Student Co-ordinator

This teacher liaises directly with Education Queensland International, agents and the students. These students come to study for a short period (1-4 terms) or to complete their Year 11 and 12 school studies. The teacher also works closely with the Home Stay Co-ordinator. Homestay is provided for international students who do not have family with whom to stay.
