Football Excellence Program
The Football Academy, which is endorsed and supported by Football Queensland, is conducted as a school subject under the umbrella of Health and Physical Education for junior schooling. Within senior schooling, students complete a Certificate II and III in Coaching.
Football conditioning, technical and tactical skills are sequentially developed over the year course and are linked closely to the 'Building Blocks' phases of the Football Australia's (FA) National Curriculum. Accordingly, the Football focus for each year is:
- Year 11 & 12 – 'ELITE': Game and Performance Training
- Year 9 & 10 – 'ADVANCED': Skill Acquisition and Game Training
- Year 7 & 8 – 'INTERMEDIATE': Skill Acquisition.
In order to ensure that players have the best opportunity to perform at the elite level, the Academy provides personal support in a number of areas. This includes academic assistance, individualised skill and conditioning plans, specialist goal keeper coaching and on-site physiotherapy assessment and treatment.
The Football Academy is a founding member of the Schools Premier League (SPL), which is a State School Football competition for boys and girls with the aim to provide the highest quality football competition for state schools with curriculum-based programs. The SPL is endorsed by Queensland School Sport.
