Touch Football Centre of Excellence
Cavendish Road SHS offers Touch Football as part of its highly successful Excellence in Sport Program. Successful applicants study Touch, in the same class, depending upon their preference and ability.
Aims of the touch football academy
The aim of the Touch Football Academy is to provide students with the opportunity to develop their potential along the elite pathway of Touch Football whilst maintaining their performance in academic studies.
We aim to provide students with quality coaching and feedback on their development within the school, environment and allow students access and opportunities to compete in elite competitions in Touch Football across South-East Queensland. We utilise technology
resources including drones and video match analysis applications to improve the
individual and team performance of our student athlete.
Eligibility
Eligibility Criteria in order of consideration
- Comparative academic merit with all other out of
catchment enrolment applicants (applicable to out-of-catchment students only)
- Applicants must be playing or have the ability
to play Touch Football at a representative level
- Performance at trials conducted by specialist
staff
Students must also meet the following criteria to remain in the Academy:
- Progression in Touch Football
- Academic standards that reflect genuine effort
- High standard of attitude and behaviour
- All school fees must be up to date or a suitable payment plan in place

Cavendish Road SHS is a school with an outstanding reputation in academic and sporting achievements. Students accepted in the Academy Program are expected to maintain the high standards of our school and participate fully in our school curriculum.
The program
Successful applicants study their chosen sport as one of their 6 subjects.
Touch Football will be taught in class, together where the skills overlap and separately where the skills diverge.
Practical areas include skills, strength and conditioning, speed and agility development.
Theory will encompass diet and nutrition, sports medicine, exercise physiology, coaching and refereeing.
Years 7 – 10 will incorporate relevant outcomes from the Health and Physical Education KLA syllabus and complete a:

The Academy is run by teachers who are passionate about Touch Football
and have extensive playing, coaching and leadership experience. They are:

Application process
Students will be invited to attend one of the Trial Days to be held at Cavendish Road State High School. Following invitation, contact the school office to select one of the two available trial days.
