Netball Excellence Program

The Netball Academy runs as part of the Health and Physical Education curriculum. Students complete the theory component of regular HPE but participate in specialised netball classes instead of regular HPE practical activities.

The Netball Academy aims to offer a challenging but enjoyable programme by providing students with the opportunity to develop their netball skills to a highly competitive level in a positive and supportive environment. Opportunities to improve netball performance include:

  • Competitions such as Southside Super 7 Netball Carnivals and Twilight Tournaments
  • Specialised netball classes where students work on a range of technical skills, position-specific skills and unit and team strategies
  • External specialist netball coaching
  • Personalised physiotherapy and fitness screenings
  • Netball-specific strength, conditioning, and injury prevention training
  • External presentation on how the menstrual cycle impacts sport performance

The Netball Academy has a strong sense of community and promotes inclusion and connection through a range of activities, including:

  • Netball Academy Breakfast
  • Netball Academy Afternoon Tea
  • Parents & Players Twilight Carnival
  • Netball Academy Awards Night
  • Leadership Day
  • Year 10 Netball Academy “buddies" for all Year 7 netball students

Many Netball Academy students develop an interest in pursuing netball umpiring, and thus opportunities for these students are provided, including:

  • Beginner umpire workshops for year 7 students
  • Umpire mentor sessions for year 8 – 10 students
  • Umpiring opportunities at carnivals, competitions and in class time
